Linux is OK..if you know a bit about Linux - I love this little box of tricks! Bought it a couple of days ago. The hardware is great - the case has a lovely shiny smooth texture. Screen is bright with good resolution. Boots up in about 20 secs (wow).Out of the box I connected to WiFi in about 30 secs, so as a browsing machine it s great. However it comes with kiddy user interface, eventually found a FAQ which explains how to get ubuntu/Linux desktop. You have to be a bit technically au fait to do this however, as it involves editing configuration files as the all powerful administrator (root). So you need to know how to get into root and not mess up the OS. It s a shame there is no easy way to do this. However, most people are familiar with windows so Linux is just different, rather than being technically difficult. If you don t know anything about Linux find a friend who does, if you want to alter the desktop.

Upgrading Ram on these Acer ones - Im happy with my purchase of this little laptop Its a great performerI put XP on mine and upgraded the ram to 1.5Gb but BEWARE upgrading the ram is no easy task There is a video on utube showing how to do it view it first you you are going for this option. You need to do alot of dismantling and I found 2 tight screws I had to drill out! Having said that I cant fault the machine the standard battery gives just over 2 hours but I also purchased the extended life one and get almost 8 hours out of it !There are plenty of other machines about but these little Acers have the 1.6 Intel Atom and perform well at a very reasonable price.

Acer Aspire 150 - Just remove the standard linpus lite OS, and install UBUNTU on it, you can do it creating a usb istallation stick using another pc, so you ll have a complete OS with al the applications working and evolving (Skype, VLC, etc..) . to upgrade the memory is quite easy, just look for video instructions on youtube. If you don t like linux, you can always install XP or Vista on in (you need at least 1gb of ram x vista), you can even install OSX Leopard in it! just look for the video tutorials on youtube...Fantastic machine for the money, with a small hardware hack you can configure the screen as touchscreen! (still look on youtube for the videos..)I hope this helps.

Almost perfect - I bought a 120 Gb 512 RAM AA1 on the 12th November for £199 (free delivery) and couldn t wait until Christmas. Its almost perfect apart from two minor problems. 1. The fan is a bit noisy, however the aspireoneuser forum say a bios upgrade helps.2. The file manager (Thunar) cannot recognize my windows home network. Its strange as Acer are aware of this problem and as yet haven t release an upgrade to fix the problem.Apart from these minor problems I would recommend the AA1 to anyone wanting a netbook. Update on imperfections - Install Konqueror by opening a terminal window and enter sudo yum install kdebaseAfter it downloads, open your file manager and go to /usr/share/applications/kde and you should see several Konqueror desktop configuration files.Right click the largest desktop configuration file and send it to the desktopUse file manager to go to desktop and click the shortcutFrom there it is fairly simple to access a windows network, share files and printers.4.5 stars now. Just the noisy fan to fix.

Where s the manual? - Amazon promote a 1GB memory upgrade with this machine, but when you go to find the AcerSystem User Guide which page 7 of the Quick Guide claims to be installed on the hard drive, it is nowhere to be found! So, no instructions from Acer (or Amazon, come to that) re. how to go about the memory upgrade. There turns out to be MUCH more disassembly required that I have ever encountered in other computers, for such a routing upgrade. Fortunately, video guides to what you have to do, one of which is really excellent, can be found by searching You Tube for Acer Aspire One memory upgrade (without the quote marks).I have not yet tried the WiFi option, but must say getting online via my Virgin Media cable modem was unbelievably straightforward. It just got on with it and I was online before I knew it.
